John was lucky, that our friendly Farmer Eddie had a huge Oak tree falling over in the winter storms. Eddie was very happy for us to chop up the tree so we can use the wood as firewood.
John was glad he had a long chainsaw, it would have been very difficult to deal with the tree trunk otherwise.
Eddie even provided a tipping trailer and once we filled it up, he brought it up to the house with his tractor. We had 4 journeys, so loads of logs.
John had bought a log splitter, which fits onto the back of our tractor, this made the hard work of splitting the logs into firewood so much easier. Don’t get me wrong, it was still a lot of work, the pile of wood went down very slowly.
He must have filled up 2 dozen bulk bags, now they need to dry and we are sorted for the next cold winter. We run out of bulk bags, so some of it is drying in the barn, some of the larger logs are also not chopped up yet, running out of space to store the bags etc.
